New Garda Station for Swords???
Progressive Democrats press release
January 9, 2007

Swords Garda Station decision imminent ? Morrissey

Dublin North Senator Tom Morrissey says he believes the delivery of a new Garda Station for Swords is moving ever closer.

The Progressive Democrats representative said he was hopeful that there would be positive news for hard-working Gardai in Swords in the very near future.

?I now understand that a decision on the future of Swords Garda Station will be taken in the coming weeks. A new court house and garda station on a greenfield site is certainly my preferred option to cater for the future needs of Swords and I believe this option is currently being looked at favourably,? he said.

?In the past, improving the situation for Gardai in Swords had gone off the radar but now I believe it is top priority for both the Departments of Justice and the Office of Public Works.?

On behalf of his constituents, Senator Morrissey pledged to do all he could to persuade his Party Colleagues, Michael McDowell and Tom Parlon, to focus their attention on the North County.

Senator Morrissey said his Party Leader, Tanaiste and Minister for Justice Michael McDowell, had visited the area on a number of occasions in recent times.

At the end of November, the Tanaiste received a briefing at Swords Garda Station and afterwards he praised the professionalism of local Gardai as well as Gardai in training who are working at the station as part of their training course in Templemore.

He also revealed that the Chief Superintendent had made clear his view that Garda numbers would have to go up because of the expanding population.

For further information please contact Senator Morrissey on 086-8114824. Many thanks.
